Change of Book Publisher

I've learned that my contract with Libros Para Todos was cancelled by the death of the owner, so I'm going to investigate other book publishing companies to see what options are out there.

Since I wrote last, I've finished the book design and set up a book presentation in March 2013 at an escaramuza fair that will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the escaramuza sport at the charro club where it started.

Next week I'll try to meet with as many book companies as I can, and see what happens.

Book Moves Forward

Today I met with the son of the late Mr. Colmenares: Jose Manuel. He has decided to run his father's book publishing company, Libros Para Todos (Books For Everyone), and is very interested in making my book Escaramuzas happen next month, October.

Rest in Peace Mr. Octavio Colmenares

The gentleman who believed in my photography book passed away on the morning of Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012.  Mr. Octavio Colmenares, who runs the small Mexican publishing company Libros Para Todos, (or Books For All), was in his 80s.

The painting hangs at his Libros Para Todos book publishing company
When I met Mr. Colmenares in late 2011 to present my book idea, he looked at my book dummy and said "yes" right away. He struck me as a very honest and straight person, like many people from his generation, so I didn't shop around further for a publisher. He was the first publisher I met, and he was perfect.

He asked me once if I had children. When I said "no," he looked at me and said: "This book will be your first," as he smiled his characteristic grin.

I only knew him for one year, and interacted with him briefly once a week at his office while working with graphic designer Margarita Hernandez. I'm sure there are many people out there who knew him well and will miss him deeply.

May you rest in peace Mr. Colmenares.

The Issue of Printing

As the editorial shops around for a printer, the job has possibly fallen into the best of hands: Emilio Garcia Salazar, the graphic artist and professional printer who put his artistic touch on two of my photos for the book's box.

We met with Octavio Colmenares, the editor at publishing company Libros Para Todos, to talk about the printing of the box, since Emilio's company Enlace Design does exactly that kind of work, and and we walked out with the possibility of him printing the entire project! I can't be more pleased. Emilio's attention to detail is superb, he's a true professional and a delightful person.

We'll see if the publishing company accepts his budget and the first test print should be only weeks away!

Last work session

The book design is complete! Today graphic designer Margarita Hernandez and I put the final touches on the design of the book's box and made a few minor corrections to the text. I expect to see a test print in a few weeks and launch the book in August!

Ninth work session

After yesterday's work session, the ninth, what's left?

- Finish the design of the book's hard cover
- Finish the design of the box that will hold the book

...and it looks like next week this will happen !

Eighth work session

Today was a quick session to tweak some details on the text and lay out what's next...just two things: translate the prologue into English from Spanish, written by an invited surprise guest, and design the cover box. I think we can wrap this up in two weeks!
